Comic for Jun 30, 2008: Green Life

Must Hit Mike With Green Spells...

posted Jun 30, 2008 12:00am by Darryn

This story is pretty true, as you might well imagine.

I know I'm late to the GTAIV party, but I didn't find myself immediately engrossed by it. It took some time, but now I'm enjoying it quite a bit. I'm not done it yet, I'd estimate I'm about 2/3rds of the way through (stuck at that stupid bank-robbery mission right now).

Anyway, long story short, here's some fan art I made when I should have been working.

right-click blah blah blah for a full view.

Amanda's found herself pretty busy on her DS lately.  Particularly with Etrian Odyssey.  It made me realise just how hardcore she is at RPGs.
If you're old school enough and hardcore enough, check it out

Other than that, enjoy the comic and see you cats next monday.

They Sound Delicious

I still can't find the huge list I had for comics, which really is too bad for a few reasons. Not the least of which being that Sean is no longer living anywhere within an entire day's worth of travel, and he is often a major asset in coming up with comic ideas (thanks to his wacky antics).
But we must move on without Sean.

Yesterday concluded the Free Weekend for Team Fortress 2 on Steam. Mike has been quite taken by the game, and I decided to try it out (read: succumbed to Mike's pressure).
It was a fine game, I loved the visuals, I loved the style, but I don't feel it was right for me.
I continue to play a lot of Unreal Tournament 3, and I was expecting my skills to translate well. They did translate, but not as well as I was hoping (I was ranking about middle for points on my team as opposed to the top in UT3).
The one thing I realised early on that I hated in UT3 was Warfare mode. You run around, capture the nodes, and when you have all the nodes leading up to the enemy's prime node, you can destroy it and win the game. It obviously has some appeal to many people (Mike among them), but objective-based online FPS seems to distract me from what I'm good at - killing other players. So in UT3 I learned to leave Warfare alone, and focus on deathmatches instead. Unfortunately, objective-based missions are all Team Fortress 2 has to offer.
I will tell you this though - that opinion is mine and mine alone. I'm highly confident that I am by a very large margin in the minority.
Next time they upgrade one of the TF2 classes (rumour has it that it'll be the Engineer), they'll do another free weekend, and if you haven't tried TF2 yet, I'd encourage you to give it a shot to make up your mind on your own.

And they say PC gaming is dying.

See you cats next Monday!

As Taught in School

I was hoping not to follow up an obscure comic with another, somewhat nonsensical one, but I've lost the sheet I keep all my comic ideas on(!). I had so many ideas on it, but they're gone now. I hope I can find it again soon.

By the way, in the last comic, it was Gomer Pyle (from the Andy Griffith show, and later from his own Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.), whose famous catch phrase is "Shazam". Little Billy Batson also says "Shazam" a lot, but when he says it, he's struck by magic lightning than turns him into the Super Hero Captain Marvel.

I've got some more art for you.
That is to say I've got some more Final Fantasy VI art for you.
Amanda says it looks like I'm having trouble letting go of it, but I just say it was an awesome experience, and I like to make art for that kind of thing.

Here's Celes at the opera-

Hopefully I'll have something a bit more orthodox for you next week.
